The Young Mannheim Symphonists from 2017 and 2018 reunited in November 2018 for a special concert to honour the life of Richard Gill. The youth orchestra performed the first movement of Symphony No.1 by Beethoven, directed by Rachael Beesley.

Musicians from the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Sydney and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras mentored the students and performed alongside them in concert to celebrate Richard’s life.

Thank you for inviting us back to perform with the Young Mannheim Symphonists. I made the best memories in July and am so grateful that we could come back together so soon and play music. Even though it must been an extremely tough time, Nicole, Rachael and all the tutors have shown such strength and made this occasion into something really beautiful and meaningful. I have learnt a lot, not only about clarinet playing, but also about music and life. Thank you for your kindness and I hope the very best for you and the orchestra.

I didn’t know I could learn so much about the first movement of the symphony, but after these wonderful days of learning, I now know so much and am now enjoying Beethoven’s music a lot more.

Thank you very much for providing the opportunity to play with such wonderful musicians. A fulfilling experience, I feel as though I have learnt a tremendous amount in the intricacies of music from the classical period.

Many thanks to James Pensini and Santa Sabina College in Sydney’s inner west for hosting the youth orchestra for the rehearsals in the lead up to this special concert.
